WHAT IS FASCIAL STRETCH THERAPY?
Fascial Stretch therapy is a clinical approach to addressing the fascia (the connective tissue surrounding your muscles, bones, ligaments, joints, and organs), improving your mobility, flexibility, and functional range of motion.
WHO IS FASCIAL STRETCH THERAPY FOR?
People of all ages can benefit from fascial stretch therapy, including any patient cleared by their physician for stretching and active movement, fitness enthusiasts, and athletes of all levels.
What’s the difference between Fascial stretch therapy and myoFascial Release?
Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a dynamic technique focused on improving mobility and flexibility by targeting the fascia, through gentle traction and movement. FST addresses the whole fascial system.
Myofascial Release (MFR) involves applying sustained pressure to tight or restricted areas, which can include the fascia, but mainly targets the muscles. MFR releases muscle tension with sustained pressure to muscle tissue, similar to a massage.
IS IT SCIENCE-BASED?
The first research into FST effects initiated in 1997 with founder Ann Frederick’s thesis. Current research on the effects of FST on chronic low back pain is being conducted with a team at the University of Arizona Medical School in Phoenix. FST is also based on the extensive science resources found at www.fasciaresearchsociety.org.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM your first FST SESSION?
Initial Consultation
We begin with a focused review of your medical history, physical activity, and treatment goals to ensure a personalized approach.
Functional Assessment
Targeted movement and range-of-motion tests are used to identify mobility restrictions, asymmetries, and areas of fascial tension.
Treatment Session
You’ll be positioned on a treatment table while the therapist performs assisted, pain-free stretching techniques. These movements are designed to improve joint mobility, increase flexibility, and reduce fascial restrictions throughout the body.
What to Wear
Please wear athletic clothing that allows full range of motion (e.g., compression gear, gym shorts, leggings). Avoid restrictive or bulky garments.
Post-Treatment
Many clients report improved mobility and reduced tension. Some mild soreness is normal. Please hydrate before and after treatment.
IS IT PAINFUL?
Fascial Stretch Therapy is NOT painful. It is a gentle modality meant to help the client to relax and stretch out. If there is any pain, or pinching, the client must tell the therapist.
FST is widely used by the NFL, NBA, NHL, and Olympic teams to improve flexibility, improve range of motion, and prevent injuries.
